Ottawa, Canada: The Canadian authorities have taken into custody members of an alleged hit squad suspected to be involved in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Khalistani militant, in British Columbia last year, as reported by the Canadian Telecom Enterprise.
According to sources, the suspects had been under surveillance in Canada for several months prior to their arrest. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have not yet provided any official statements regarding the matter.
Earlier in September, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had announced that Canadian authorities were pursuing charges linking Indian government agents to Nijjar's fatal shooting. However, New Delhi dismissed Trudeau's claims as baseless.
Canada has been urging India to cooperate in its investigation. Additionally, the US revealed that it had foiled an assassination attempt against a Sikh activist on its soil.
The presence of Khalistani militants in Canada has been a longstanding concern for New Delhi. Nijjar had been labeled as a "terrorist" by India.
