Melinda French Gates Opens Up About Divorce from Bill Gates

Melinda French Gates recently shared insights into her divorce from Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates during an interview with TIME magazine. She revealed that the decision to separate initially happened before the divorce was finalized in 2021.

Speaking about navigating the private process amidst caring for their children, Melinda emphasized the challenges of disentangling their lives, stating, "To be able to do that in private while I'm still trying to take care of the kids...thank God." She described the divorce as "awful" and "horrible," yet noted that life has improved since then. "I live in a neighborhood now. I can walk to little stores, the drugstore, a restaurant," she shared, expressing her newfound enjoyment of this lifestyle.

The divorce, marking the end of their 27-year marriage, also prompted Melinda to step away from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, a significant force in global philanthropy. Reflecting on her decision, she emphasized considerations for her children and the foundation's continuity. "Those are the three biggest buckets: me, the kids, and the foundation," she explained.

Following her departure from the foundation, Melinda has redirected her focus towards empowering women globally. She recently announced a billion-dollar initiative aimed at advancing women's rights and economic empowerment.

Addressing Bill Gates' connection with Jeffrey Epstein, Melinda expressed her disapproval and regret over their interactions. "I made that clear to him," she asserted, noting that she met Epstein once out of curiosity, an encounter she deeply regretted.

In her candid interview, Melinda French Gates provided a glimpse into her personal journey post-divorce, highlighting resilience and a renewed dedication to impactful initiatives.
